Wills primarily deal with assets and asset distribution after you have died (ex. Who gets what that you owned). Take Care deals with all the other hundreds of decisions that family needs to make if you are incapable of deciding for yourself (because of death or medical reasons). It’s a secure, expert-designed resource that helps you organize everything your loved ones need to know—your medical wishes, financial details, caregiving instructions, and more—ensuring they’re supported in every decision, not just the legal ones. In healthcare we call these advanced care plans, others refer to it as a living will. Take Care extends far beyond just advanced care plans and offers users the opportunity to put an entire plan in place for everything they and their family will need to prepare for as they age and reach the end of life.
No. The platform autosaves as you go and you can return to it at any time to complete it, change answers, or answer questions that were previously not relevant. It is designed to be dynamic and change as your life evolves. However, we highly encourage you to get it done as soon as possible, then use future visits to edit answers you have reflected on, revisit questions, or upload missing data. There will always be a million reasons not to plan ahead – so once you’ve started, just get it done and edit it later!
You can still share responses with your loved ones and professionals, even if you have not completed every section. In fact, we highly encourage you to do so – the last thing we would want is you to have finished some sections, but not all, and your family never to receive anything because you opted not to share yet. It’s why we highly encourage sharing with your family from day 1, and treating it as a very dynamic document that you can and will change over time! The beauty of it being online is that it is not set in stone, and can be easily changed as things in your life evolve.
No. While we very much encourage it so that all of your loved ones know what you want (and the conflict around these decisions can be limited if everyone has the same information to make the decisions), you can choose to simply fill it out and share it if/when you are ready on your own. This is not our recommendation, however, as the whole aim is to help lessen the stress and burden on your loved ones during these incredibly challenging moments when they’ll be faced with a lot of complex decisions.
Yes! You can define exactly what categories you want each loved one or professional to receive your answers for.
Yes! The platform is meant to be dynamic and you can log in and change your answers at any time.
No. There will be some mandatory questions, but the vast majority are not mandatory. It’s completely up to you what you skip. You can also mark questions as ‘not relevant’ so they are stored for you later in case things in your life change and they become relevant (ex. You now have a lawyer who’s information you want to enter).
Unlimited! There is no cap on how many people you share your wishes with. We encourage you to share with your entire family – so everyone knows why POAs are making the decisions they are making, why executors are making the decisions they are making, and to help hold them accountable to your wishes.
We charge a small annual fee to keep your plan safe, up to date, and useful for your family over time. Planning ahead isn’t something you do once—it evolves as life changes. The annual fee makes sure you always have:
-
Ongoing access and storage for your plan and stored wishes/documents
-
Regular updates as laws, best practices, and our features grow
-
Family visibility so your loved ones can find what they need when it matters most
-
Continuous improvements—from new modules to easier navigation, based on user feedback
-
Continuous Legacy Content Creation – you can continue to build, and add to your legacy content that will get sent out after you die, and we will continue to store all of these materials for you
At $25 per year, the fee is designed to be affordable while covering the behind-the-scenes work that keeps your plan secure, private, and easy to share.
Think of it, like keeping your family’s roadmap current—so when life changes, your plan is ready.
